at
Windswept Farms
July 2008
July has started out with a bang here at Windswept Farms! We have just returned from a Fourth of July weekend at the All American Junior Show in Sedalia, Missouri. The All American is a National junior sheep show that moves to a different location each year. It is a kid and family centered show that brings together extremely high quality show animals from thirteen different breeds of sheep, including Shetlands.
This year there were approximately 185 youth exhibitors at the All American from all over the United States. There were 6 Shetland Juniors present with 45 head of Shetland Sheep. We are very proud to report that Joey trained and showed the Champion Shetland Ram Windswept Titanium. Alex owned and showed the Champion Shetland Ewe Windswept Peach. To top off our holiday weekend, Sammy won the Shetland Top Gun Award for the Junior Show- she earned the highest total number of points for the Shetland Breeding Stock Show, Shetland Wool Show, Showmanship, Promotional Contests, Judging Contest, and Sheep Skill-a-thon.
As we return home, the pastures are thriving from the recent rains and the second cutting of hay is ripe and ready for mowing. We are hoping for good haying weather and continued good grazing for the month of July. The kids will be resting and recovering from their big weekend, before we start working on more sheep training for the August sheep shows!
