August has been a super-crazy month so far at Windswept Farms. After a relaxing family camping trip, we jumped right back into sheep showing and fiber festing!
The Indiana State Fair was a whirlwind last week- we arrived in Indianapolis late Sunday night, showed sheep Monday evening, and were home early Tuesday afternoon. Our sheep did very well at the Indiana State Fair- the highlight of the show was when Sammy won the Best Fleece on Hoof award with Windswept Neon!
As soon as we came home from Indiana, we started getting ready for Michigan Fiber Festival, which started just two days later! Mike created a new display unit for our fiber sales booth and it was awesome- he spent all day Thursday setting up. Mike was busy all weekend selling our fiber products, while Heather and the kids handled sheep and fiber showing.
The sheep breed shows were on Saturday and again our sheep placed well- once again Sammy had the biggest win with her Yearling Ram Windswept Cedar taking Reserve Champion honors. Windswept Farms had first and second place Shetland fleeces in the Wool Show, and once again Windswept Great White Shark's fleece was Reserve Grand Champion for the Wool Show.
We had beautiful weather all weekend long, and a perfect night for our annual pig roast Saturday evening. Mike somehow managed to work in the booth all day and still cook up a great hog! We had a wonderful crowd, and it was fun to be reunited with all of our Shetland and fiber friends.
Sunday was showmanship day for the kids and a good shopping day at the Festival. All three of our kids did a great job in showmanship- Sammy and Alex both took second in their classes, and Joe took third. After a long weekend we had a quiet evening on the farm Sunday night, and we are looking forward to enjoying the last lazy days of summer.....
