What's New

Windswept Farms
November 2008
We have just enjoyed the last few days of Indian Summer here at Windswept Farms. We took the opportunity to work outdoors and get the farm ready for winter.
Individual breeding groups have been taken down, and the breeding ewe flock has been moved into the large hayfield pasture. We have just introduced our new backup ram, Windswept Rogan- a Kelly Northstar son. Rogan is a spotted emsket four year old ram with very fine, crimpy, soft fleece.
The winter pasture has been opened up for our no-breed group of ewe lambs and adult ewes with fall lambs. Curious George, our young male llama, is guarding this group.
We have completed a new catch pen and feeding area in the winter pasture- it's very slick. The hay feeders have been repaired, the hay area cleaned, and we are ready for winter.
Our family leaves for the North American International Livestock Exposition (NAILE) in Louisville, Kentucky on November 13th. NAILE is our last big sheep show of the season. The kids will be showing in the Shetland Junior Show on Sunday, November 16th and the whole family will be showing in the Shetland Open Show on Thursday, November 20th. NAILE is an amazing livestock show and it's always a fun trip, but a lot of work.
It looks like Mike will be heading East to deliver sheep in early December. This is an opportune time for anyone in the Eastern States interested in purchasing some Windswept Shetlands. We still have some excellent ewe lambs and ram lambs available for sale- just contact us at hludlam@wmis.net
